Why are couples choosing to elope? Well, they’re starting to realize that they have options when it comes to their wedding day. Yes, I said wedding. Elopements are, and should very much still be, considered your wedding day. Even when couples have large budgets and close relationships with their family, they’re starting to notice that the big, elaborate wedding isn’t for them. There are plenty of reasons to elope, and the couples that do, value spending their wedding day together and want their day to be an experience that prioritizes THEM. Planning a traditional wedding involves a lot of people—and, unfortunately, unsolicited opinions as well. It can become overwhelming and stressful! Who wants to worry about that on the most intimate day of their lives? Eloping eliminates that stress and allows you to start your life with an epic adventure because you deserve that!
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying all of this to put down large weddings. Everyone has a preference and a dream of what they want their day to be like, and for those that can’t picture themselves putting on that big party, we want you to follow your dreams too! Now, let’s get into some of the top reasons to elope.
Eloping permits you to create the day that YOU want. You don’t have to follow a certain standard, structure, or itinerary. Don’t want to invite 150 people to your wedding? Perfect, bring your closest crew. Don’t want to have bridesmaids and groomsmen? You don’t have to! Don’t want to have your ceremony in a stuffy wedding venue? Sweet, do it on a mountain ledge looking over a gorgeous meadow. The possibilities are endless, and you and your boo have total control over the look of your day.
According to The Knot, the average wedding cost in 2022 was $30k! I KNOW that can not sound appealing to everyone, and let me tell you, weddings are not getting any cheaper. Eloping gives you the flexibility to allocate your dollars more intentionally. Maybe after, you can use the extra money to have a sweet honeymoon. Not everyone has $10k, $20k, or $30k to throw around for their wedding day, and that’s totally okay. YOU get to decide what is important.
Want to take a helicopter ride to your elopement destination? No, not crazy. This is another perk to eloping over a traditional wedding. We can hike a mountain, do a Jeep tour, hit the slopes, and so much more! When I say dream big, I’m not kidding. There are fewer restrictions and many opportunities when choosing your adventure, and if you need some inspiration, I’m an email away!
It’s hard to be entirely present and in the moment during a traditional wedding day. With all the hustle and bustle, as hard as you try, you still have a million things running through the back of your mind. Are all the vendors on time? Why are my bridesmaids being so obnoxious (if you know, you know)? Then you may have seating plan complaints, no wedding planner, pressure to look great, and the list continue. It’s desirable to have an intimate and meaningful day, and I think sometimes couples forget that the day is about the two of you, not everyone else.
When you have the right vendors, of course. It’s important to do your research when deciding who to choose to be your elopement photographer. Essentially they should be able to help plan your adventure on top of taking epic photos. Once you find that perfect match, planning your elopement should be seamless and FUN!
