The magic of the Surf Hotel in Buena Vista is that you can say your “I dos” in a place that feels like a charming European retreat, nestled in the heart of the Colorado mountains. It’s a boutique venue that blends luxury with the laid-back, adventurous spirit of the Rockies. This Colorado wedding venue is your spot if you’re into stylish architecture, breathtaking views, and an effortlessly elevated wedding day.
Buena Vista is one of Colorado’s best-kept secrets for summer weddings. While the rest of the world is melting, this little mountain town delivers perfect August weather—warm, sunny days with cool, crisp evenings.
I have enjoyed photographing some truly special celebrations here, but Jeff and Winnie’s wedding was absolute perfection. Their day was full of love, laughter, and the kind of moments you replay repeatedly. The Surf Hotel is calling your name, and after experiencing Jeff and Winnie’s wedding here, I can confidently say—you’re going to love it.

Some weddings hit different, and Jeff and Winnie’s day was one of those. It was a beautiful, love-filled day wrapped up in the dreamiest August weather.
These two actually found me thanks to a past couple whose wedding I photographed. Jeff and Winnie were guests at that wedding (I love it when this happens!), and after seeing how I work—and, I’d like to think, how much fun we had—they decided I was the right fit for them. Which, let’s be honest, is the biggest compliment.
From the moment I arrived, the day just flowed. The sun was shining, and the air had that perfect late-summer warmth. But what truly made this day unforgettable was Winnie’s mom stepping in to honor her late father. She walked Winnie down the aisle, gave a heartfelt speech, and filled the space with so much warmth and love. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight—mine included.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a wedding that perfectly balances elegance with adventure, the Surf Hotel in Buena Vista might be your dream venue. This boutique, European-inspired hotel sits on the Arkansas River, surrounded by mountain views. It’s ideal for couples who want a wedding that feels both refined and relaxed.
One of the best parts of getting married at the Surf Hotel is no matter where you say your vows, whether you go for a riverside ceremony, the courtyard, or the Grand Ballroom with its floor-to-ceiling windows, every space is photogenic.
Buena Vista summers come with dreamy golden-hour light, warm (but not hot) temperatures, and crisp mountain air that makes everything feel fresh. Plus, with extended daylight, you get extra time for those post-ceremony sunset portraits, which are a must. The reception space is designed for an easy indoor-outdoor flow, meaning guests can dance or slip outside for fresh air and quiet conversation.

Colorado is no stranger to sought-after wedding destinations, but Buena Vista is a little different. It has that off-the-beaten-path charm while offering plenty of luxury, adventure, and signature Rocky Mountain views. If you and your guests want to make a whole weekend out of it, there’s no shortage of things to do—hot springs, hiking, whitewater rafting, exploring the cutest downtown area—all wrapped up in a laid-back yet sophisticated town.
Plus, Buena Vista nails the balance between accessibility and intimacy. It’s not so remote that it’s a hassle to get to, but it’s far enough from the big cities to feel like a true getaway. And with cozy hotels, Airbnbs, and plenty of outdoor adventures, it’s the kind of place where your guests will want to extend their stay.

There’s something about this location that makes every wedding feel beautiful. It could be the European-inspired charm or how the mountains frame every moment. Whatever it is, I never get tired of photographing weddings here.
What I love most is how every wedding at the Surf Hotel takes on its own personality. Sure, the venue itself is stunning, but the people bring it to life. I’m here to capture the all-out romance and the tiny, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that make your wedding yours. I don’t believe in stiff, overly posed photos. My approach is all about storytelling—documenting the real, unfiltered moments you’ll want to relive for years.

If a Surf Hotel wedding is calling your name, I’d love to capture it. Let’s chat if you’re still piecing together your vision or are knee-deep in wedding plans! I can help with vendor recommendations, timeline guidance, and all the little details that make the day run smoothly. Ellen and Mark’s Camp Hale wedding was the kind of mountain day that keeps you on your toes. They actually found me through Instagram after falling in love with my editing style and how I capture couples looking natural. From our first chat, it was clear these two wanted their wedding photos to feel relaxed, […]

Rowan and Jake first popped up on my radar as guests at a wedding I photographed in June 2025. Though, funny enough, we didn’t actually meet that day (wedding chaos will do that to you). Fast-forward a few months, and they reached out after getting engaged at the end of summer, ready to dive into […]

Kyle and Abby’s celebration at The Mountain Wedding Garden in Crested Butte was a dream from start to finish—and for me, it became a love letter to wedding film photography. The groom is a big film enthusiast, so much so that he handed my husband (who is also my assistant) his Pentax 645 medium format […]

Anna and Zach’s Vail Golf Club wedding was the perfect mix of mountain magic and editorial elegance. Vail has always been Anna’s happy place—where she grew up skiing and where she and Zach first fell in love—so it was only natural to bring everyone they love back here to celebrate. From the very beginning, Anna […]

Kirsten and Will first slid into my DMs (well… my inquiry form, but that’s basically the same thing) back in June 2024. On it, Kirsten wrote, “I love your editing style and previous photos at Piney.” Piney Lake (Piney River Ranch) is one of my all-time favorite spots, so when I saw they were dreaming […]

There’s always something special about photographing a destination wedding, especially when it involves a place as stunning as Baja Luna in San José del Cabo. The bride happens to be best friends with one of the planners I work with frequently in Colorado. She was helping Elisa find a photographer, and after a little online […]
