There’s something undeniably magical about winter in the Colorado Rockies—and Vail is the crown jewel of it all. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic, cinematic engagement session with snow-dusted evergreens and aspen trees, cozy alpine lodges, and golden light reflecting off the mountains. Whether you’re newly engaged or planning a destination session in the mountains, here’s how to make the most of a winter engagement in Vail.

Vail blends luxury and charm with natural beauty, making it one of Colorado’s most iconic and picturesque locations. Towering mountain backdrops, quiet snow-covered trails, and upscale après-ski vibes create a setting that feels straight out of a snow globe.
This featured couple was referred to me by a local wedding planner, and after booking their NYE 2025 wedding last week, we jumped right into planning their engagement session! They brought along their sweet pups and popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate, keeping things fun, lighthearted, and easygoing. Since their winter wedding will be full of playful details and outfit changes, we kept this session timeless and simple—letting the snow, the love, and those cozy mountain vibes do the talking.

The best months for a winter engagement session in Vail are December through March. Snowfall is typically consistent, and the landscape stays beautifully white. For softer lighting and warmer tones, aim for golden hour (an hour before sunset)—even in winter, the glow can be dreamy.
Style matters—but so does staying warm. Choose elegant, layered looks with rich textures and colors that complement the snowy landscape.
Pro Tip: Bring hand warmers and a thermos of tea or cocoa to stay comfortable between shots.

Photos are best when they reflect real connections and when you lean in to just being with another. Here’s how to romanticize your session:

Your engagement is a season worth celebrating, and documenting it in Vail during winter turns it into something truly special. Snowy landscapes, elevated fashion, and genuine emotion combine to create timeless and cinematic images.
If you’re planning a winter engagement session in Vail (or dreaming of one), I’d love to help you tell your story in the most beautiful, romantic way possible!

Perched high above the Vail Valley, the Vail Mountain Wedding Deck offers sweeping alpine views and a quiet that’s hard to find elsewhere. At over 10,000 feet, you quite literally rise above it all. With the Gore Range stretching endlessly behind you and Colorado’s beloved 14er, Mount of the Holy Cross, anchoring the horizon, the […]

Tucked into the Elk Mountains of western Colorado, you’ll find Crested Butte. It’s about four hours from Denver, but once you’re there, the pace shifts. You get less noise, more space, and better views, perfect for those dream summer mountain engagement photos. In the summer, it’s known as the wildflower capital of Colorado, and yes, […]

Jackie and Mike’s day is proof that a non-venue wedding in Telluride can be just as intentional, meaningful, and beautifully planned as any traditional celebration. They found me through a past bride (the best kind of introduction, if you ask me), and by the time we connected, there was already trust. They loved my work, […]

Snowy engagement photos in Vail are never a bad idea. You get consistent powder, open mountain views, and clean backdrops that don’t compete. The landscape is simple, which means the focus stays on the couple, not the scenery trying to steal the show. Snow softens everything visually, from light to color to texture. It creates […]

Meredith and Broderick’s late-August Telluride wedding unfolded with the kind of mountain-town charm that always keeps you on your toes—sun one minute, clouds the next. I covered their entire weekend, starting with the welcome evening and carrying all the way through the wedding day, which gave me the chance to document not just the big […]
